krispy kale

No hesitation whatsoever when I saw the flowering kale at the grocery store. That 'Oh I have to have it' feeling that I have way too much came over me right then and there. It's by far one of the most beautiful edible things I have ever seen, just can't believe I hadn't seen one before. Clearly there is no way to overlook it either. I'm guilty of neglecting my greens and I felt so bad that I turned these gorgeous leaves into my favorite thing: a snack! Kale chips are simple, fast, delicious and healthy. And when I thought it couldn't get prettier, I pulled the tray out the oven and awed at the golden waves of purple meets green.

I cut off the stems and rinsed the leaves. Then I tossed them in 1 tbsp walnut oil and 1/2 tsp Himalayan pink sea salt and laid them out on a baking sheet. I placed them in a preheated 375 degree oven and let them sizzle for about 15 minutes.

They have awesome natural flavor and the hit of salt totally enhances that. Walnut oil was perfect for them too. It's one of my favorite (and finest) ingredients in kt's kitchen so you'll definitely see it in a lot of my recipes. If you have yet to try walnut oil: find some. Pop the lid and smell those aromas that seep out the bottle, that right there will turn you into a believer. Taste it, I dare you!

  2. I love kale chips but these are stunning! I'm thinking I won't be lucky enough to find any flowering kale but you can bet that if I do come across it, I'll not hesitate either. Yum.

  3. Your kale is an interesting color. Ahhh, tried to make kale chips today - utter fail - too much salt, didn't completely remove the stems :S
